Astra Militarum gains Grizzled Company detachment, veterans get tools
A new Astra Militarum detachment called the Grizzled Company arrived as part of a drop of six detachments ahead of the upcoming quarterly balance update, bringing rules that reward veteran infantry and new interactions with Ogryns and Bullgryns. The release changes how Orders work, adds Enhancements that stretch command reach, and introduces a suite of Stratagems that mix offensive power with defensive and utility options, making list building and in game tactics worth reassessing.
The Grizzled Company detachment centers on veteran troops hardened by long campaigns and reshapes how the Astra Militarum issues and benefits from Orders. Officers in the formation can issue additional Orders, and units operating under Orders receive improved reroll options to hit or wound, giving disciplined formations a more consistent punch at range or in close quarters. Enhancements included in the detachment extend Order ranges and permit officers to issue Orders to Ogryns and Bullgryns, creating unique synergies between command units and heavy infantry that did not exist in the same way before.
A new set of Stratagems adds tactical depth, with offensive choices that allow models to ignore cover, deliver lethal wounds, or temporarily raise Strength values to break key targets. Complementary defensive and utility Stratagems reduce enemy armour piercing values, help secure objectives and enable issuing extra Orders in alternate phases to maintain momentum across turns. These options make the Grizzled Company useful in both aggressive lists and objective focused builds, depending on which Stratagems players choose to include.
