Atlas Acquires Micro Trains, Talent Warehouse to Close, Jobs Lost
Atlas Model Railroad Co acquired Talent based Micro Trains and announced on November 21 that the Southern Oregon warehouse will cease operations, affecting more than 20 employees. The deal preserves the Micro Trains product line with production moving into Atlas systems, but remaining inventory will be fulfilled only while supplies last and customer service will shift to Atlas in mid February 2026.

Atlas Model Railroad Co completed an acquisition of Talent based Micro Trains on November 17 and informed local staff of the change in a meeting held on November 21. The company announced that its Southern Oregon warehouse on Rogue River Parkway along Talent Avenue will cease operations, and more than 20 employees were told their jobs will be lost as the local operation winds down.
Company activity at the Talent facility was described as minimal the day after the announcement, and a number of employees said the sale and closure came as a surprise. Atlas officials indicated that the Talent warehouse will continue to accept and process orders until remaining products are sold out. Processed orders in Talent are expected to continue for about 90 days after the acquisition closes, through mid February 2026. This fulfillment window includes December releases and remaining inventory of single car releases, multi packs, trucks, couplers, tools and accessories until sold out.
Atlas has said it plans to continue production in 2026 of Micro Trains products under the Micro Trains by Atlas name. Under the terms of the agreement, Atlas will assume ownership of Micro Trains molds, tooling and associated intellectual property, and will move production into its global manufacturing and supply network. Company statements indicated the integration will focus on preserving Micro Trains designs while leveraging Atlas engineering, logistics and production capabilities to broaden innovation and future product offerings. Atlas also told dealers and customers that there are no immediate plans to move all tooling offshore and that supply to dealers will be maintained during the transition.
For hobbyists and dealers the transaction is consequential in several ways. Short term, inventory at the Talent warehouse represents the last batches of locally processed Micro Trains orders and could include sought after N and Z scale single cars and couplers that collectors track closely. After the transition period, all Micro Trains products will be available through Atlas authorized dealers, distributors and the Atlas online store, and Atlas will assume responsibility for customer service, parts and support once the Talent based service period ends in mid February 2026.
Micro Trains traces its roots to the early 1940s and has long been known for precision N and Z scale model trains and couplers. The loss of a local manufacturing presence in Talent marks an end of an era for the Rogue Valley community, and it has prompted mixed reaction online with hobbyists expressing surprise and concern about production shifts. At the same time, Atlas position within global distribution networks could mean wider availability and consistent quality standards for the Micro Trains product line over the longer term.
Collectors, club operators and dealers will be watching the next three months closely for remaining stock and for announcements from Atlas about production plans and release schedules as 2026 approaches.
