The Chester Historical Society will welcome families, friends, and community members on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, for its annual tree lighting at the historic 1915 Erie Railroad Station, 19 Winkler Place. The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m., when a donated 40 foot pine tree will be illuminated on the station grounds, a visible symbol of local generosity and seasonal tradition.

Earlier in the afternoon visitors can browse a Christmas holiday Market inside the Erie Railroad Station from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Vendors will offer holiday themed items suitable for seasonal giving and home celebration. The market is designed to showcase unique gifts and decorations while creating a festive atmosphere for shoppers and neighbors before the evening ceremony.

Musical performances will help set the tone for the gathering. Song of the Valley Chorus and members of the Bellvale community will lead caroling of traditional Christmas songs as attendees assemble for the lighting. A Holiday Basket Raffle, which includes an assortment of holiday items and a special bottle of wine from Brotherhood Winery, will be drawn at 5:30 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase until the drawing, adding a charitable element to the festivities.

Beyond celebration, the event serves as a practical opportunity for community building and local economic support. Community support helps the Chester Historical Society achieve its mission of preserving local history and fostering community engagement, and the gathering offers residents a low barrier way to connect with neighbors, support local vendors, and participate in civic life.

Public health remains a consideration during winter gatherings. Attendees should assess personal risk, stay home if they are sick, and use common sense measures such as hand hygiene and staying outdoors when possible to reduce respiratory virus transmission. The event offers a warm, inclusive moment for Chester residents to come together, sustain cultural institutions, and share holiday cheer.
