Del Rio Middle School students transformed the campus library into a seasonal showcase, continuing a tradition that librarian Ms. R. Ramon started several years ago. The project grew more elaborate this year, with nine separate trees and displays based on Disney movies, each designed and constructed by teams of students who began work in October.

School organizers unveiled the displays to friends and family on December 4. The public will have an opportunity to see the installations on Thursday December 11 from 5 00 to 7 30 PM. Entry will cost one dollar per person and concession treats will be available to buy, with proceeds directed to Del Rio Middle School reading fund which supports student readers.

Ms. Ramon framed the classroom component of the project as a lesson in collaboration and logistics. "The assignment teaches teamwork and planning", she said. Students worked in groups to select themes, plan materials and build the trees within the library space, a process staff say has expanded in scale each year the tradition has continued.

For local residents the event offers a low cost family activity while channeling community support into a school program with direct instructional benefits. Funds raised through the event go into the reading fund which supplies resources for struggling readers and classroom literacy activities, reducing reliance on other funding streams for those supports.

The library display also functions as a practical education exercise offering students hands on experience in project management, creative design and peer cooperation. School leaders view the annual display as a means to build school climate and increase parental and neighborhood engagement with curricular work beyond standard classroom hours.

As the public opening approaches, organizers encourage families to attend during the scheduled evening hours to view student work and support the reading fund. The event represents a blend of community celebration and localized fundraising that directly benefits Del Rio Middle School students.
