Douglas County Staffer Arrested on Child Sex Offense Charges
A Douglas County School District nutrition services employee was arrested after a tip led investigators to child pornography and additional evidence of alleged sexual crimes. The arrest raises questions about hiring, oversight, and school safety for families in Highlands Ranch and the wider Douglas County community.

On December 31, 2025, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Michael Beccia Jr., 35, of Highlands Ranch, after a tip indicated he was in possession of child pornography. During the course of the investigation, deputies and detectives uncovered additional evidence that led to charges including Aggravated Incest, Sexual Assault on a Child by a Person in a Position of Trust, and Sexual Exploitation of a Child.
Beccia had been employed by the Douglas County School District’s Nutrition Services since November 2025 and served as an assistant kitchen manager at Mountain Vista High School. He was initially placed on administrative leave. An update posted at 3:45 PM on January 2, 2026, states the district has since terminated his employment. Beccia was transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
All charges are allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. At this time, detectives have not identified any Mountain Vista High School students as victims. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and authorities have said no further information will be released at this time. Detectives are asking anyone with information or anyone who believes they or someone they know may be a victim to contact Detective Clay at sclay@dcsheriff.net.
For local families and school staff, the case underscores immediate concerns about screening and oversight of employees who work on campus. The district’s swift move from administrative leave to termination reflects a rapid personnel response, but the incident will likely prompt community scrutiny of hiring practices, background checks, and the protocols used to report and investigate allegations that involve school-affiliated personnel.
Beyond personnel policy, the arrest has broader implications for civic accountability. Incidents involving alleged crimes by school employees frequently become focal points in school board discussions and can shape voter priorities in school governance elections, particularly on issues of safety, transparency, and district oversight. Residents interested in shaping district policy have avenues for engagement: contacting the sheriff’s office with information, attending school board meetings, and requesting public updates from district officials about policy changes and safeguards.
This remains a law enforcement matter under active investigation. The district has said it is cooperating fully with detectives. As the legal process moves forward, Douglas County residents and families connected to Mountain Vista High School will be watching for additional disclosures from investigators and the school district about how the allegations were detected and what steps will be taken to prevent harm in the future.
