Goochland County Announces New Year Closures, Offices and Facilities
Goochland County announced on December 12 that county offices, convenience centers, the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, and Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on New Year’s Day, Thursday January 1. The notice is intended to help residents plan around service interruptions and adjusted schedules for recycling and drop off centers.

Goochland County issued a notice on December 12 detailing holiday operating hours and closures for the New Year period. County offices, convenience centers, the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, and Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed on Thursday, January 1, with normal operations scheduled to resume on Friday, January 2.
The county also announced adjusted hours for the day before the holiday. Parks and Recreation facilities will close early at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 31, and the Goochland Branch Library will close at 3:00 PM on the same day. These early closures and the New Year’s Day shutdown are intended to provide staff time off while ensuring a clear schedule for residents who use county services over the holiday week.
For residents, the announcement affects a range of routine activities. The closure of county offices may require rescheduling planned visits for permits, public records, or other administrative services. Convenience centers and drop off points will be unavailable on January 1, and the county noted that recycling and drop off center schedules may be adjusted as a result. The temporary closure of the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center will affect in person services for pet adoptions, surrenders, and related visits during the holiday.
Advance notice gives families and businesses the opportunity to plan around the interruptions. Those who rely on Parks and Recreation programming, library services, or county administrative functions should make arrangements before the early closures on December 31 or the full day closure on January 1. Normal operations are set to resume on Friday January 2, restoring regular access to county facilities and services.
Residents with time sensitive needs should confirm specific hours or any additional schedule changes through county channels prior to the holidays, to avoid disruptions and to coordinate appointments or required drop offs around the announced closures.
