Greensboro opens curator applications for Cultural Center First Friday events
The City of Greensboro’s Creative Greensboro office opened applications on January 8, 2026, inviting artists and organizations to curate First Friday events at the Greensboro Cultural Center. Selected curators may receive up to $1,000 in support for 6-9 p.m. activations, with applications accepted on a rolling basis and required at least 90 days before the proposed event.

Greensboro’s Creative Greensboro office began accepting submissions on January 8, 2026, from artists and community organizations interested in curating First Friday events at the Greensboro Cultural Center. The program allows curators to propose a mix of art activations, vendor tables, hands-on activities and live performances during the typical 6-9 p.m. event window, and offers up to $1,000 in support per curated event.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, but the city requires that proposals be submitted at least 90 days before the date of the proposed event. That lead time means groups applying after the January 8 opening would generally be eligible for events scheduled no earlier than early April. The rolling schedule provides flexibility for organizers planning spring and summer programming while preserving time for event coordination and publicity.
The funding cap of $1,000 is intended to offset costs such as materials, artist stipends, logistic needs and vendor support, although applicants should plan realistic budgets and consider additional sponsorship or in-kind partnerships. Programming that combines visual arts, interactive components and live performance can broaden participation and create a lively atmosphere inside the Cultural Center, helping to draw foot traffic to the downtown arts corridor and supporting local makers and small businesses.

For local artists and cultural organizations, the opportunity represents a way to present work to new audiences, test interactive formats and build relationships with the Cultural Center and city arts staff. For vendors and performers, curated First Friday events offer exposure during an established evening program and the potential to establish recurring engagements. Community residents gain increased access to cultural offerings and hands-on activities in a central, familiar venue.
Interested curators should note the submission timeline and prepare proposals that align with the 6-9 p.m. event window. The City of Greensboro’s notice accompanying the application opening includes contact information and an online application form for submissions and questions. With advance planning and collaboration, the program aims to expand Greensboro’s evening cultural calendar and deepen public engagement with the city’s arts ecosystem.
