Holiday Events Bring Community Together in Pahrump This Week
A series of community holiday events last weekend drew residents to local institutions for music, food, family activities and seasonal displays, providing opportunities for social connection and civic engagement. These gatherings reinforced the role of colleges, churches and volunteer clubs in sustaining public life and supporting the local economy.

Last weekend Pahrump hosted a range of seasonal events that brought families and neighbors into shared public spaces. Great Basin College Pahrump held its Winter Oasis on Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 551 East Calvada Boulevard, where attendees met Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoyed holiday music, games, refreshments and seasonal activities. The event used campus facilities to create an accessible community celebration for students and residents alike.
On Saturday, an International Food Festival at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church located at 781 East Gamebird Road ran from noon to 4 p.m. The festival featured cuisines including Hungary, Germany, the Philippines, Mexico and more, and showcased cultural diversity while supporting volunteer and parish activities that often undergird community services.
Sunday afternoon brought the Hand Bell Choir Jingle Bells concert from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pahrump Valley United Methodist Church, 1300 East Highway 372. The free will donation format allowed broad participation while enabling the congregation and performers to collect modest funds for local programs. Meanwhile the Pahrump Community Library hosted a detailed model train display by the Pahrump Model Railroad Club, open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 701 East Street. The library exhibit drew families and hobbyists to a municipal venue that regularly serves as a civic hub.

These events illustrate how local institutions function as centers of civic life, offering informal settings for community bonding, volunteer recruitment and small scale fundraising. For residents, such gatherings provide low barrier opportunities to connect with neighbors, support nonprofit and faith based groups, and engage with educational institutions. They also contribute to local foot traffic and spending at nearby businesses during a time of year when seasonal commerce matters to small enterprises.
Regularly scheduled community programming like these holiday offerings helps maintain social capital that can translate into higher civic participation, volunteerism and responsiveness to local governance. As Pahrump moves deeper into the holiday season, residents seeking low cost family activities and chances to support local organizations will find several accessible options at college, church and library venues across town.
