Huntingburg’s annual curbside leaf pickup starts today, and the City is asking residents to follow this week’s plan so crews can move efficiently and storm drains stay clear. According to the City’s notice, leaves will be collected south of Highway 64 on Monday and Tuesday, then north of Highway 64 on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is a catch-up day for any streets crews could not finish earlier in the week.
The City emphasizes this is a complimentary service and residents do not need to call City Hall to be added to a list. To help crews reach piles, residents should rake leaves to the curb line and keep limbs and sticks out of leaf piles.
Avoid placing leaves near parked cars, poles, landscaping, and mailboxes, and keep piles away from storm sewer inlets so drains don’t clog during rain events. This launch follows the City’s Fall Cleanup Days held October 9 through October 11 at 1103 E 1st Street, which gave residents a chance to dispose of unwanted items ahead of leaf season. The Street Department also adjusted Limb Yard hours from October 9 to October 14 during cleanup week. If your street is missed on the scheduled day, the City notes that Friday is used for catch-up.
For questions about placement, the schedule, or missed service, residents can contact Kenlee Steffe, Director of Community Development, at the City of Huntingburg. The bottom line for this week, especially with fall storms in the forecast: know which side of Highway 64 you live on, set leaves at the curb without sticks or debris, and keep piles clear of storm inlets.
Those simple steps keep gutters flowing and streets safer as collection gets underway.
