Jamestown city crews will start clearing snow on all emergency routes beginning Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 25, according to the Jamestown Street Department. Crews will move into the downtown business district later in the evening, with plowing scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Tuesday.

All sidewalks must be cleaned off before 11 p.m. Tuesday, and vehicles should be removed from downtown streets, avenues and alleyways to allow plows and crews to operate. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions, total snowfall, and blowing and drifting snow that can slow operations and require adjustments.

The city ordinance requires property owners to keep adjacent sidewalks clear of snow and ice. Residents are asked to place snow onto a street only after a city plow has already cleared that street, so as not to obstruct municipal clearing efforts. Compliance helps maintain clear walkways for pedestrians, improves safety for schoolchildren and parents, and reduces hazards for the elderly and people with limited mobility who rely on accessible sidewalks.

Clearing emergency routes supports faster response times for fire, ambulance and law enforcement services. For local businesses, timely downtown plowing helps preserve access for customers and deliveries during a critical holiday travel period. Rural residents and agricultural operations in Stutsman County also depend on coordinated municipal and county snow removal to keep roads passable and farm supply chains moving.

The Street Department cautions that changing winds and ongoing snowfall may require crews to return to certain areas to address drifting, and residents should monitor local channels for updates. Neighbors and community organizations can reduce risks by checking on elderly or isolated residents and offering assistance with sidewalk clearing when needed.

The information was provided in a staff report to the Jamestown Sun published Nov. 25, 2025.
