Kiwanis Club Hosts Free Breakfast With Santa, Supports Local Charity
The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos held a free Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, offering a family meal, photos with Santa, and opportunities to donate to local causes. The event combined community outreach with fundraising for LA Cares and club programs, highlighting the role of civic groups and local sponsors in addressing seasonal needs.

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos hosted its annual Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the lower level of the Betty Ehart Senior Center at 1101 Bathtub Row. Breakfast was provided by the Kiwanis Club together with the Los Alamos High School Key Club, and Del Norte Credit Union served as an event sponsor. Families who attended had an opportunity to visit with Santa and take photos while contributing non perishable food donations for LA Cares or making monetary gifts to support Kiwanis youth and community programs. See's Candy was available for purchase during the event.
Organizers asked families to reserve time slots in advance to reduce wait times, with reservations and details posted at LosAlamosKiwanis.org/Santa. The reservation system aimed to smooth traffic flow into the senior center and limit lines, making the event more manageable for families and volunteers. Holding the breakfast in the Betty Ehart Senior Center also reinforced the building's role as a community hub that hosts both senior services and family oriented events.
Beyond seasonal cheer, the event served practical community needs. Collecting non perishable food items bolstered LA Cares supply ahead of the winter months when demand typically rises, and monetary donations help sustain Kiwanis programs that focus on youth activities and local service projects. The partnership with the LAHS Key Club gave students hands on experience in volunteer coordination, while Del Norte Credit Union's sponsorship illustrated local business participation in civic life.

In the broader context of Los Alamos County, events like Breakfast with Santa reflect a continuing pattern of civic organizations supplementing formal social services through volunteer driven initiatives. For residents, the immediate benefits were free meals, family photos, and convenient ways to support local relief efforts. Looking ahead, maintaining reservation systems and sponsor support will be important to scale such events without straining volunteer resources, while continuing to address food security and community cohesion during the holiday season.
