Las Cruces Man Pleads Guilty in Two February Bank Robberies
A 29 year old Las Cruces man pleaded guilty in federal court on December 10, 2025 for robbing two banks in February 2025, including a hold up that took at least $6,000 from a Los Lunas branch. The case, investigated by the FBI in cooperation with local police and the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, underscores federal involvement in local violent property crimes and may affect bank security and community confidence across the county.

Daniel Guereca, 29, of Las Cruces pleaded guilty on December 10, 2025 in federal court to robbing two banks in February of this year. Court documents say Guereca entered the U.S. Bank in Los Lunas on February 12, 2025, handed a handwritten demand note to two tellers and fled with at least $6,000. Eight days later he is accused of robbing a PNC Bank in Las Cruces and fleeing with additional cash.
Federal prosecutors say surveillance footage and fingerprint analysis cited in the plea tied Guereca to the incidents. The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office led the investigation with assistance from the Las Cruces Police Department, the Los Lunas Police Department, and the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office. Co defendants who assisted, including drivers and those who wrote or scoped the demand notes, have also pleaded guilty or face charges as the federal case proceeds.
Guereca faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison under the federal charges. The prosecution in federal court reflects the United States government’s authority over bank robbery cases, and it enables the use of federal investigative resources and forensic tools. Plea documents filed by prosecutors include images and analysis that investigators used to link suspects to the robberies.

For residents of Valencia County the case is a reminder of how bank robberies can prompt multiagency investigations that cross municipal boundaries and involve federal courts. Local banks and law enforcement agencies are likely to review security procedures and coordination protocols as sentencing and any related prosecutions move forward. The involvement of Las Cruces and Los Lunas police along with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office illustrates ongoing cooperation between local and federal authorities in pursuing violent property crimes.
As the federal court processes the plea and schedules sentencing, community leaders and bank officials may provide updates on safety measures and support for affected employees. The case demonstrates how crimes that occur locally can prompt federal charges and bring broader investigative resources to bear in Valencia County.
