Local College Offers Free FAFSA Help Sessions, Scholarship Guidance

Lincoln Land Community College announced a sequence of free FAFSA completion and assistance events at the LLCC Jacksonville campus, 32 N. Central Park Plaza. The sessions are scheduled for Nov. 19, Jan. 28, March 4 and April 29, each running from 2:00 to 5:30 p.m. Optional 30 minute appointment slots are available online. The Jan. 28 session will include scholarship information tables from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The announcement was published Nov. 12, 2025.

LLCC financial aid staff will be on site to help families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA. The availability of in person help is intended to simplify the application process for students who may face technological or informational barriers, and to increase the number of Morgan County residents who access federal grants and loans. Appointments offered online provide an option for more focused one on one assistance, while the open sessions allow walk in visitors to receive immediate support.

For many Morgan County households, completing the FAFSA is a critical step in qualifying for Pell Grants, work study and other financial aid that can make college attainable. Local community colleges serve a high proportion of students who are first generation, low income or balancing work and family responsibilities. By offering structured times and scholarship information, LLCC is aiming to address gaps in outreach and to promote equity in college access.

The public health implications of expanded educational access are significant. Reducing financial strain and enabling residents to pursue post secondary education can improve economic stability, which is linked to better health outcomes. Increasing local enrollment in certificate and degree programs also supports workforce development in key sectors including health care, education and trades, which in turn affects community wellbeing and access to services across Morgan County.

This initiative reflects broader policy concerns about FAFSA completion rates nationwide and the need for targeted community support to ensure federal aid reaches eligible students. Local outreach efforts like the LLCC sessions can counteract barriers such as limited internet access, complex paperwork and lack of trusted guidance. Residents interested in attending are encouraged to visit LLCCs website to reserve an appointment or to attend one of the scheduled sessions at the Jacksonville campus.
