Local Foundations Run Holiday Toy and Food Drive Supporting Families
The Massie Foundation and Counseling Connections Clinic are collecting toys and nonperishable food for Hernando County families through December 15, and will host a gift wrapping event December 14 to prepare donations for distribution. The effort supplements local social services, offers volunteer opportunities, and highlights the role of community organizations in addressing seasonal needs.

The Massie Foundation and Counseling Connections Clinic opened a community toy and food drive on December 1 at 13009 Spring Hill Drive, with collections continuing through December 15. Donations of toys and nonperishable food arrive at the site to be sorted and prepared for local families facing holiday season shortages. Organizers will host a public gift wrapping event on December 14 from 12 to 4 PM in the parking lot at the same address to package donations and ready them for distribution.
Nova Land Creations is sponsoring the toy and food drive, while The Huddle Pros and Sara Berge are sponsoring the wrapping event. An Angel Tree is on site and available for visitors who wish to select an angel and brighten a child’s holiday. The combination of collection and wrapping operations is intended to streamline volunteer work and accelerate delivery of gifts and food to households in need.
For Hernando County residents the drive serves immediate needs and illustrates how local nonprofits and clinics operate alongside county services to respond to seasonal demand. Community organized drives provide short term relief for children and families, but they also raise questions for policymakers and administrators about the sustainability and equity of support systems. When charities shoulder recurring gaps in food security and child welfare, elected officials and county agencies face pressure to evaluate program capacity, funding priorities, and coordination with nonprofit partners.

The event presents a civic engagement opportunity for residents to volunteer hands on, and to observe how donations are collected and distributed. Transparent reporting and clear distribution practices will be important for accountability, ensuring that contributions reach intended recipients and that sponsors and organizers provide accessible information about how support is allocated.
As the drive continues through December 15, donations and volunteers at 13009 Spring Hill Drive will directly affect the reach of this holiday relief effort. The Massie Foundation and Counseling Connections Clinic plan to finalize gift preparation after the wrapping event and coordinate delivery to families in the days that follow, making this drive a time sensitive community endeavor.
