The Charles Beck Gallery at M State Fergus Falls launched The Heart of the Prairie: Four Muses, Four Stories on November 6, 2025, showcasing landscapes, florals, textured prints and mixed media pieces by four regional artists. The exhibition brings together work by Della Conroy, Deb Connolly, Kerry Kolke Bonk and Phyllis Joos, with imagery and materials inspired by prairie vistas and rural life.
The gallery show will remain on view through January 9, 2026, providing roughly nine weeks for community members, students and visitors to view the collection. M State scheduled an artist reception and talk on November 13 in Legacy Hall, giving the public a chance to meet the creators and learn about the artistic processes behind the work. The Charles Beck Gallery is open to the public during campus hours, which allows access for residents who wish to combine a campus visit with downtown errands or seasonal shopping.
The exhibit is curated by the college collection staff and emphasizes regional themes that resonate with Otter Tail County residents. By foregrounding local subject matter and artists, the show aims to strengthen ties between the college and the broader community while offering hands on learning opportunities for students in art and related fields. For the artists, the campus gallery presents exposure to a broader audience and potential sales or commissions that can support creative livelihoods in the region.
Cultural programming such as this exhibit also has modest economic implications for Fergus Falls. Events and exhibitions draw visitors to the campus and nearby businesses, especially during the late fall and holiday period when the exhibit is on view. Local restaurants, shops and service providers can benefit from additional foot traffic generated by receptions and gallery hours, while the college advances its role as a cultural anchor in Otter Tail County.
Residents interested in more background can consult M State's official news release for artist biographies and exhibition images. The Heart of the Prairie offers a timely invitation for local audiences to reflect on landscape and rural identity, while supporting regional artists and the campus arts program through public attendance.
