McKinley County Water Outage Disrupted Homes and Local Services
A planned overnight water outage on November 19 2025 affected homes and businesses around Nizhoni Boulevard and South Second Street in Gallup, as H.O. Construction completed two new water line tie ins. The interruption temporarily cut service to emergency facilities, a school, the Veteran’s Affairs Clinic and dozens of residents, highlighting short term disruption and longer term infrastructure improvements.

On the night of Wednesday November 19 2025 a wide area water outage occurred in Gallup while H.O. Construction carried out two new water line tie ins near Nizhoni Boulevard and South Second Street. The City of Gallup Water Department issued a public notice that the work required a broad interruption in service from 9:00 PM on November 19 to 5:00 AM on November 20 2025. The outage affected both businesses and private residences across a swath of the city.
Among the impacted sites were the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office, Gallup Fire Department Number One, the Veteran’s Affairs Clinic, Six Directions Indigenous School, The Door Church, and multiple commercial properties including all businesses in the R and M Furniture Plaza and all businesses on Second Street from Boardman Avenue to High Desert Nephrology. Residential streets included Cedar Hills Drive, Elm Circle, Mount Carmel Avenue, Pecan Circle, Walnut Circle, Debra Drive, Marce Place, and Elva Drive along Cipriano Avenue addresses 2155 and 2170.
For residents and business owners the outage meant an interruption to overnight water use and to morning routines on November 20. Facilities such as the Veteran’s Affairs Clinic and the Indigenous school were affected during the outage window, even though the timing minimized daytime disruption. Emergency services listed among impacted locations needed to confirm operational readiness and alternate water arrangements as a precaution. City and contractor notices advised those with concerns to contact DePauli Engineering at 505 863 5440 or Metro Dispatch after hours at 505 722 2002.

Planned outages for infrastructure upgrades are a common municipal tool to improve system reliability, and the tie ins completed by H.O. Construction are part of maintaining and expanding water service capacity. For McKinley County residents the episode underscores both the necessity of periodic system work and the importance of clear communication from municipal departments. The City of Gallup Water Department provided the public notice outlining the outage and contact information for follow up.
