Menominee Tribal Legislature heads to January main election, no primary
The Menominee Tribal Elections Office announced on December 5 that certified candidates did not meet the threshold to require a primary, so the Menominee Tribal Legislature race will be decided in the January main election. Residents should note polling dates, locations, and absentee ballot procedures ahead of voting in January.

The Menominee Tribal Elections Office announced on December 5 that the number of certified candidates did not reach the threshold required to trigger a primary election, clearing the way for the Menominee Tribal Legislature election to proceed directly to the January main election. The office posted lists of certified candidates who will appear on the ballot, separated by on reservation and off reservation lists, and provided information about the write in candidate process and absentee voting options.
In person voting for the main election will take place on January 14, 2026 at the Neopit Precinct building and on January 15, 2026 at the Menominee Casino convention center Bear Room. Polling hours for both dates are 9:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M. Voters should plan for those two days to cast ballots, or pursue absentee ballots if they cannot attend in person.
The Elections Office explained how to request absentee ballots, noting that requests can be made online via the Enrolled Members tab, by email, by phone, or in person. The office also provided contact information for members with questions about ballots, polling locations, or the write in process. Voters should contact the Elections Office promptly to confirm enrollment status and to allow time for an absentee ballot to be issued and returned before the election.

Skipping a primary narrows the calendar but increases the importance of the main election for all certified candidates. With both on reservation and off reservation seats on the ballot, turnout and absentee participation will shape representation for the Menominee Tribal Legislature. For residents who rely on absentee voting, the posted procedures are the practical route to participate, especially for those living off reservation or with scheduling constraints on the January dates.
Community members planning to vote should review the certified candidate lists and the Elections Office instructions as soon as possible. Confirming eligibility and requesting an absentee ballot early will help ensure ballots are received and counted in the January main election.
