Spring Hill Shooting at Apartment Complex Raises Safety and Health Concerns
Deputies in Hernando County arrested a 19 year old after shots were fired in the Spring Haven Apartments complex this evening, an incident that struck multiple vehicles and left residents shaken. The case highlights local public safety and public health concerns tied to firearm access, drug related disputes, and the need for community supports.
Hernando County deputies responded to reports of gunfire at Spring Haven Apartments in Spring Hill around 6:30 p.m. on December 10, after a resident called to report his car had been shot at as he drove into the complex from Mariner Boulevard. The driver told deputies he had seen two men on the sidewalk before hearing multiple gunshots and discovering his vehicle had been struck.
Officers began a search based on the victim description and located a man leaving an apartment on Glen Ivy Terrace who matched the description. Three men inside that apartment were detained and taken to the sheriff's office for interviews. Deputies identified one of the men as 19 year old Isiah Jaheem Geigel. Geigel admitted to firing at the vehicle and said he had bought marijuana from the victim and was unhappy with the quality, and that the victim had "disrespected him."
Investigators say Geigel told detectives where he had hidden the firearm. After obtaining a search warrant, deputies recovered the weapon where he indicated. Two other unoccupied vehicles in the complex were also struck by stray rounds during the incident. Geigel has been charged with three counts of shooting into a vehicle and aggravated assault, and he remains in the Hernando County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing and authorities may release more information as it becomes available.
