Suspect Arrested in Downtown Eugene Stabbing, Charges Filed

Eugene police took 38 year old Joshua Margarito Saldivar into custody on December 5 in the 1300 block of West 17th Avenue and transported him to the Lane County Jail. Saldivar faces charges that include first degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon in connection with a stabbing attack that occurred the night of Dec. 2 near Oak Alley and East 10th Avenue. The victim, a man in his 40s, was treated by first responders at the scene and hospitalized with life threatening injuries.

The original incident was reported to police around 10:02 p.m. on Dec. 2. Responding crews provided emergency medical aid and secured the scene as investigators began a search. Eugene and Springfield law enforcement agencies cooperated during the investigation, drawing on a variety of investigative resources during the searching phase. Police later released statements and scene photographs from downtown on and after the night of the attack as part of their effort to document and explain the investigation.
