Teen Falls From Fergus Falls Bridge, Hospitalized With Injuries
A 17 year old male fell from the Veteran Bridge on Tower Road in Fergus Falls on December 2 and was hospitalized with cold weather exposure and physical injuries. The Fergus Falls Fire and Police Departments responded, and police say there does not appear to be any criminal element in the incident.

Emergency crews in Fergus Falls responded early on December 2 after a teenager was found on the shoreline of the Otter Tail River following a fall from the Veteran Bridge on Tower Road. At about 8 a.m., Fergus Falls Fire and Police Departments located a 17 year old male who was suffering from injuries related to the fall and from cold weather exposure. He was transported to Lake Region Healthcare for treatment.
Officers were able to speak with the individual and with family members at the scene. Police said that based on initial interviews and investigation there did not appear to be any criminal element to the incident. Authorities have not released further details about the extent of the injuries or the patient condition after transfer to the hospital.
The incident highlights hazards that residents face along local waterways in winter months. Cold December temperatures increase the risk of hypothermia and worsen the consequences of slips falls and unexpected immersion. The Otter Tail River shoreline can be slippery and uneven, and a fall from a bridge into shallow or fast moving water can produce serious injuries even when water depth is limited.

Local emergency responders say timely reporting and rapid access to the location are critical. The Fergus Falls Fire and Police Departments were dispatched and on scene quickly, and their response enabled prompt medical assessment and transport to a regional hospital. Lake Region Healthcare continues to serve as the primary trauma and urgent care facility for the community.
Neighbors and families are urged to use caution near bridges riverbanks and other waterfront areas, especially during cold weather. If you see someone in distress call 911 and provide a clear description of the location to help responders reach the scene without delay. The investigation into the circumstances of the fall remains with Fergus Falls police, and no further public safety threat has been identified at this time.
