Theatre Raleigh opens new coffee shop, expands arts campus and neighborhood offerings
Theatre Raleigh opened The Green Room, a new coffee shop inside the Theatre Raleigh Arts Center at 3031 Barrow Drive on December 5, 2025. The cafe will serve local coffee, baked goods, grab and go lunch items and soft serve ice cream, creating a new community hub that supports arts programming, nearby small food businesses, and neighborhood activity.

Theatre Raleigh expanded its arts campus on December 5 with the opening of The Green Room, a community facing coffee shop inside the Theatre Raleigh Arts Center at 3031 Barrow Drive. The new cafe offers coffee roasted by Grey Squirrel Coffee Co. of Carrboro, baked goods, grab and go lunch items and soft serve ice cream, with some food supplied by The Veggie Wagon. The addition reflects Theatre Raleighs stated goal to add on site amenities that support arts programming and neighborhood activity.
The Green Room arrives as a practical amenity for theater patrons and a potential everyday gathering place for neighbors. By situating food and beverage service inside the arts center, Theatre Raleigh aims to increase the time people spend on site before and after performances, and to make the facility more useful to the community during daytime hours. For residents of Wake County the cafe provides convenient access to prepared food and hot beverages in a part of Raleigh where such options are limited during theater events.
The shop also strengthens local food networks by partnering with a Carrboro roaster and a regionally known small scale vendor for some items. These relationships can circulate more of the local arts dollar back into nearby businesses and producers, and they may create part time employment opportunities that support community members with flexible work options.

From a public health perspective, the Green Room offers social benefits that matter beyond coffee. Community gathering spaces reduce social isolation, create opportunities for informal support and increase foot traffic that can improve public safety. The presence of affordable grab and go items may also help patrons and neighborhood workers access quick meals without long travel. Theater leaders will need to maintain food safety and accessibility practices to ensure equitable benefit for all residents.
As Theatre Raleigh integrates the Green Room into programming, the cafe will serve as a test case for how arts institutions can advance neighborhood vitality while supporting small regional food suppliers. For many Wake County residents the new space promises simpler access to food and beverage during arts events and a welcoming place to gather in the heart of the arts campus.
