Zak Mirz brings interactive Kid at Heart tour to Farmington
Zak Mirz performs his interactive Kid at Heart show in Farmington on Jan. 24; $5 tickets aim to make the family event accessible.
World-renowned magician Zak Mirz will perform his new, fully interactive show Kid at Heart at San Juan College’s Henderson Arts Performing Center on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m., offering an affordable family outing that promises a different experience each performance.
Mirz, a Season 20 semifinalist on America’s Got Talent and a winner on Penn & Teller: Fool Us, bills Kid at Heart as the first magic show built around real-time audience input. Instead of a fixed routine, the production lets attendees determine how tricks unfold, turning skeptics and believers alike into active participants. The format is designed for all ages and aims to deliver a fast-paced, unpredictable mix of humor and wonder.
Tickets are $5 thanks to HFAC’s Family Friendly New Year subsidy, keeping the event within reach for local families and school groups. Tickets can be bought online at sjcboxoffice.universitytickets.com or purchased at the door starting one hour before the show. For more information, call (505) 566-3462 or visit sanjuancollege.edu/events. The Tri-City Record calendar also lists this and other upcoming local events.
For Farmington and San Juan County, the appearance represents both cultural and economic value. Low-cost arts events increase access to live performance for households that face rising costs in other parts of life, from groceries to fuel. The Henderson Arts Performing Center’s programming helps keep San Juan College a community hub, and one-off ticketed events often drive modest additional foot traffic to nearby restaurants, shops and service businesses on event days.

From a market perspective, bringing touring acts with national profiles can raise Farmington’s profile as a regional stop and may encourage similar bookings, particularly when local venues and college partners offer subsidized pricing. For families weighing entertainment options, a $5 price point sharply lowers the barrier to trying a new format of interactive theatre-magic, which may boost attendance and word-of-mouth for future shows.
Practical notes: the show runs at 2 p.m. on Jan. 24; arrive early if you want to secure seating or buy tickets at the door. Our two cents? Treat this as a cheap, safe bet for a memorable afternoon—buy tickets online if you can, bring the kids, and be ready to help decide the next impossible moment.
