Zollinger Library Announces December Events, Community Programs in Gallup

Zollinger Library at the University of New Mexico Gallup is staging several public events throughout December designed to engage students and community members with low cost, accessible programming. The library will run an Elf on the Library Shelf scavenger hunt from Monday, December 8 through Friday, December 19. Participants can search the stacks for a hidden elf and claim a prize, and may play as many times as they wish.

A Stress Less Night will take place beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10. The library will open the atrium for board games, painting, and music, while the conference room will host Christmas karaoke and snacks. The event is scheduled to offer a relaxed atmosphere for students finishing the semester and for residents seeking a communal respite from academic or seasonal pressures.

Zollinger Library is also presenting a December film series focused on mystery holiday titles. The program screens films at 4 p.m. every Thursday in the conference room, with popcorn available on a first come, first served basis. A mystery Christmas film was shown on Thursday, December 4, and a mystery holiday film is scheduled for Thursday, December 11. The weekly screenings are intended to create a regular gathering point on campus and to broaden cultural programming at the library.

These events highlight the library’s role as a public amenity on campus, offering social and recreational options that complement academic services. For students with constrained schedules and for local families, the scavenger hunt, Stress Less Night, and film series provide low barrier opportunities to participate in campus life during the holiday season. Zollinger Library invites all interested community members to attend and use campus space for safe, inclusive activities.
