Apex Motorcycle Chase Ends With Arrest, Handgun Recovered

Apex police took 21 year old Ashton Konopka into custody on December 12 following a short but dangerous high speed motorcycle pursuit that began at the Beaver Creek shopping center. Officers reported observing what they described as reckless riding in the shopping center and attempted a traffic stop. Konopka fled from officers and allegedly reached speeds near 100 miles per hour while weaving through traffic.

The motorcycle collided with a vehicle during the pursuit, after which the rider ran into nearby woods. Responding officers located Konopka shortly after the crash and recovered a handgun at the scene. He received medical attention for minor injuries and was transported to the Wake County Detention Center.
