Farmington invites regional artists, seeks sculptures for Main Street
The City of Farmington announced entries are open for the 2026 to 2027 Art in the Heart Downtown Sculpture Exhibit, a fourth year public art program that will place up to 25 sculptures along Historic Main Street. The project aims to enliven downtown, expand public access to art, and support regional artists while boosting foot traffic for local businesses.
The City of Farmington announced on December 4 that it is accepting submissions for the 2026 to 2027 Art in the Heart Downtown Sculpture Exhibit. Now entering its fourth year, the program will select up to 25 works for a one year display along Historic Main Street, with selections made by juror Rosemary Meza DesPlas.
Selected pieces must be available for sale. Artists chosen for installation will receive a $1,000 honorarium following installation. Artists traveling from out of town will receive two nights of complimentary lodging, and the City will host a public reception celebrating the artists on Friday, May 8, 2026.
“Each year, these sculptures bring new energy and character to Main Street,” said Downtown Coordinator Karen Lupton. “They create moments of connection, encourage people to slow down and explore, and contribute to the continued vibrancy of our downtown. It has been inspiring to see how this program has helped enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors alike.”
Selection will emphasize artistic quality and originality, timelessness so that works maintain relevance over time, and permanence so pieces are structurally sound and weather resistant with minimal maintenance needs. Compatibility with the character of downtown and broad public appeal are required, and public safety is a priority so works must not present safety hazards or liability concerns.

Artists may submit up to three separate entries, with a $25 application fee per entry. Applications must include three to five images or optional video per piece, an artist statement about the submitted work, resume or CV, and an artist headshot for use on the City of Farmington website. Applicants must also provide sculpture details including title, materials, dimensions and weight, special installation requirements, and the piece value and sale price. Applications are accepted exclusively through the CaFE website at callforentry.org and must be received by Jan. 31, 2026.
The opportunity is open to artists residing in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Utah. Selected artists will be notified the week of Feb. 22, 2026. For additional information contact Downtown Coordinator Karen Lupton at (505) 599 8459 or klupton@farmingtonnm.gov. The program is positioned to increase cultural access, encourage pedestrian activity, and support local businesses while ensuring public safety and long term sustainability of public art.
