South Summit Fire District crews were notified around 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 of a structure fire in Oakley that was classified as a "working incident." The Wasatch Fire District responded to assist, and later summoned additional help from Park City Fire District and North Summit Fire District as the blaze moved into the roof and attic space.
Wasatch Fire District said the interior fire "was quickly knocked down," but firefighters then confronted flames that had already extended into the upper structure. In a social media post, the department described the operation as hazardous: "This was particularly challenging due to the high vaulted ceiling, as well as the roof being a corrugated metal." The department added, "It had snowed recently, which made the roof a slip hazard, as it was also steep."
Crews worked to gain access to the roof and attic, and were ultimately able to get the blaze under control. Officials have not released information on injuries or the extent of property damage, and the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
