Goochland Honors 40 Employees, Celebrates 370 Years of Service
Goochland County recognized 40 employees for a combined 370 years of public service, honoring staff whose work sustains daily life in the community. The acknowledgments underscore the role of experienced local government workers in maintaining consistent services and institutional knowledge that matter to residents.

On Tuesday, December 2, Goochland County gathered to recognize 40 employees whose combined tenure totals 370 years of service to the community. The honorees represent a range of long term public servants whose day to day responsibilities help deliver core services residents rely on. Employees were grouped by years of service in categories including five years, ten years, twenty years and thirty years, and several honorees were photographed during the event.
The county highlighted the practical importance of that experience for local governance, noting that long serving staff provide continuity and institutional memory that smooths operations from public safety to administrative functions. The recognition comes at a time when many local governments are focused on retaining experienced workers while recruiting new talent, a challenge with implications for service quality and fiscal planning.
Dr. Raley, County Administrator, spoke to the purpose of the ceremony. “Today we recognize these employees for their dedication and service to the Goochland community,” said Dr. Raley, County Administrator. “Their passion and commitment to selfless service shines through in the impactful work they do for our residents.”

For residents, the event is more than ceremonial. Stable staffing levels and seasoned employees reduce service disruptions, speed responses to everyday problems and emergencies, and preserve institutional knowledge that helps new staff carry forward ongoing projects. Recognitions of this type also contribute to workplace morale, signaling to both current employees and potential applicants that the county values long term public service.
