Lane and Entrance Closures in Poʻipū Affect Local Traffic
Kauaʻi County Department of Public Works and contractor Goodfellows Bros. announced lane and entrance closures on Kiahuna Plantation Drive and at the west entrance to Kiahuna Plantation Resort, beginning Nov. 13 and running through Dec. 3. The work is part of the Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project, and residents and visitors should expect alternating traffic, occasional short full closures, and longer travel times.

Kauaʻi County Department of Public Works and contractor Goodfellows Bros. announced lane and entrance closures in Poʻipū that will affect drivers and access to a major resort area. The work starts Nov. 13 and continues through Dec. 3, operating Tuesdays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The closures are part of the Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project.
During work hours Kiahuna Plantation Drive will be reduced to a single lane where it meets Poʻipū Road. Flaggers will alternate traffic to maintain vehicle flow, and motorists should be prepared for occasional full closures lasting five to ten minutes. The west entrance to Kiahuna Plantation Resort will be closed for the duration of the daytime work period. County officials and the contractor are directing drivers to use alternate routes and to allow extra travel time when planning trips through the area.
The changes matter to local residents, commuters and the tourism sector because Poʻipū is a busy area for both daily life and visitor traffic. Reduced lane capacity and short full closures can produce backups during peak morning and early afternoon periods, affecting travel to workplaces, shops and nearby beaches. Resort guests and tourism operators will need to follow posted detour signage and may experience delays for deliveries and scheduled services. Local businesses along Kiahuna Plantation Drive and Poʻipū Road could see shifts in customer access during the work window.
Officials have provided direct contacts for questions about the project. Goodfellows Bros. can be reached at 808 879 5205. Kauaʻi County Public Works Engineering is available at 808 241 4883 or pwengineering@kauai.gov. Residents seeking further information or needing to report an urgent access issue during the day should use those numbers and the county email.
The scheduled timetable limits work to daytime weekdays in an effort to balance construction progress with community needs, and to reduce impacts on nighttime traffic and events. Motorists are advised to check travel plans, allow additional time, and follow directions from flaggers and signage. The temporary disruptions aim to support the broader Poʻipū Road Safety and Mobility Project which intends to improve conditions for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in the long term.
