The Los Alamos County Office of Emergency Management issued a public notice on December 11 announcing the county Local Emergency Planning Committee quarterly meeting, to be held via Zoom on Wednesday December 17 from 9 to 10 a.m. The agenda highlights a National Weather Service briefing focused on expected storm activity, temperature trends and winter hazards as they relate to Los Alamos County. An American Red Cross overview of programs and volunteer opportunities will follow.
The meeting format and agenda place immediate operational information at the forefront of local preparedness efforts. A National Weather Service outlook can affect municipal decisions on road treatment, school and public transit operations, and emergency staffing levels. The American Red Cross presentation will outline local volunteer roles and resources that augment county capacity during winter incidents, which has implications for how the county and its partner agencies mobilize non governmental support during severe weather.
The Local Emergency Planning Committee convenes county officials, partner agencies and community stakeholders to coordinate planning for hazards and emergency response. The Office of Emergency Management invited LEPC members, partner agencies and community stakeholders to attend and indicated that meeting notes and presentation materials will be shared after the session. OEM also provided contact information for questions in the public notice.

For residents and community organizations, the meeting offers a direct opportunity to obtain authoritative forecasts and to learn how local volunteer programs might support response and recovery. Participation by stakeholders in LEPC meetings contributes to transparency and helps align agency planning with community needs. Information from the National Weather Service and the American Red Cross will inform household preparedness, employer continuity planning and local nonprofit coordination as winter weather unfolds.
The session is scheduled to be virtual only. Those with an interest in emergency planning, volunteer engagement or winter safety are encouraged to note the date and consult the Office of Emergency Management for follow up materials or clarifications after the meeting.
