University of Mississippi Seeks Developers for 25 Acre Stadium District
The University of Mississippi issued a request for proposals on December 11 for development teams to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a 25 acre mixed use condotel and athletics and entertainment district around Vaught Hemingway Stadium. The project is a public private partnership that could reshape gameday traffic, campus amenities and local economic activity in Lafayette County.

The University of Mississippi issued a request for proposals on December 11 for qualified development teams to deliver a mixed use condotel and athletics and entertainment district on 25 acres surrounding Vaught Hemingway Stadium. Proposals are due February 5 and the selected development team will enter a long term ground lease and take responsibility for design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the project.
The RFP frames three core goals for the project. The university aims to elevate the gameday and everyday experience at the stadium, create an active district environment that encourages regular use by students, faculty, alumni and fans, and update or replace existing athletics facilities within the development footprint to support a cohesive entertainment area. A central feature would be a destination quality condotel integrated into a walkable mixed use setting, with potential components including restaurants and rooftop venues, retail and team stores, event and conference space, athletic offices and other experiential uses intended to create a signature front door for Ole Miss Athletics.
The 25 acre site surrounds Vaught Hemingway Stadium and includes adjacent land to the north that is currently a mix of parking areas, offices and auxiliary structures. The parcel is bordered by All American Drive, Hill Drive and Gertrude Ford Boulevard, and sits near the Manning Center and The Pavilion, offering visibility across the eastern edge of campus. Developers are encouraged to propose creative layouts and phasing strategies that support stadium upgrades, strengthen the main entrance aesthetics, and activate underutilized land throughout the year. The RFP envisions an initial phase focused on establishing the district experience, advancing stadium upgrades and creating unified connections to nearby facilities, with potential future phases including additional stadium expansion.

For Lafayette County residents, the project signals significant local economic implications. Construction and year round activity could boost demand for hospitality, dining and retail services while changing traffic and parking dynamics near the stadium. The public private partnership structure shifts financing and operating risk to private developers, which can accelerate delivery but also raises governance questions around campus access and long term control of public land. As proposals are evaluated through the winter, residents should expect more detailed plans on phasing, traffic mitigation and community impacts.
