The City of Welch and American Legion Post 8 are calling on residents to take part in the 107th Annual Veterans Day Parade, stepping off at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, in downtown Welch. Organizers say they’re still seeking churches, school bands, cheerleaders, businesses, and veteran organizations to join the lineup and help keep this century-old tradition alive. Known as the nation’s longest continually running Veterans Day parade, the event stands as a powerful symbol of McDowell County’s pride and resilience.

For more than a hundred years, it has honored service members while bringing the community together through music, color, and remembrance. This year’s theme—“In unity comes strength, in honor comes veterans”—reflects that shared spirit.

Parade Chairman Jason Sorah and organizers Pam Akers and Jim Spence say the city is ready to welcome anyone willing to march or volunteer. Beyond the celebration, the parade plays a vital role in revitalizing downtown Welch, drawing hundreds of families, students, and visitors to local shops and restaurants each November. It’s both a salute to the past and an investment in the community’s future. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. on November 11 in downtown Welch.
