According to the complaint, a prior version of the model called GPT 4o validated the son's delusions, failed to direct him to mental health help, and loosened safety guardrails that would otherwise have limited dangerous responses. The suit names OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman as a defendant and lists Microsoft as a major partner, arguing the companies share responsibility for the model's design, deployment and safety practices.
