On December 9, 2025, at 10:50 a.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Vance Street and Bar View Court in Eureka after a report that an adult male was walking near Pine Hill Elementary School with his shorts pulled down, exposing himself. Deputies contacted the man, identified as 37 year old Kevin Charles Astry, who immediately exhibited hostile and aggressive behavior and refused to comply with verbal commands.

During the contact Astry actively resisted arrest and physically assaulted one deputy while deputies were attempting to handcuff him. Deputies were ultimately able to gain control, and Astry was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on charges listed as P.C. 314(1) Indecent Exposure, P.C. 243(b) Battery on peace officer or emergency personnel, and P.C. 69(a) Obstruct or Resist an executive officer.

The incident occurred in close proximity to Pine Hill Elementary, heightening concern among parents and school staff about student safety during school hours. Deputies arrived on scene and resolved the situation quickly, and there were no reports of injuries to students or further disturbance at the campus. Still, residents living and working near the school may wish to remain attentive to unusual behavior and contact law enforcement if they see suspicious activity.

The charges against Astry carry legal consequences that will proceed through the county criminal justice system. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity to call (707) 445 7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268 2539. Parents and caregivers concerned about local safety can contact the school for updates and coordinate with law enforcement for community safety information.

This arrest underscores the importance of rapid police response to incidents near schools, and it provides a clear avenue for residents to share tips that may prevent future incidents.
