Officials recommended that residents pick up mail promptly and arrange alternate pickup when they will be away. The advisory encouraged people to customize delivery instructions using carrier tracking tools, to use USPS Hold for Pickup or Intercept options, and to request a USPS Mail Hold when traveling. Neighbors can be enlisted to retrieve items when homeowners are absent. Residents were specifically advised to avoid sending cash through the mail and to follow up quickly on any missing items.

The sheriff’s office also outlined physical security measures. Installing secure and locking mailboxes or using post office boxes can limit opportunistic theft. Home security cameras aimed at delivery areas provide additional deterrence and evidence in the event of a theft.
